Are granite worktops really that expensive?

If you are a homeowner, you probably considered installation of a granite worktop in your kitchen, but you were astonished by the price of even the simplest and the smallest one. Why such seemingly simple product is so expensive?
Well, the majority of the price is dictated by the manufacturing process which required specialistic tools. First and foremost, you have to get the material to the workshop, and some more rare and exotic granite patterns and colors can be found only in one specific part of the world. But even if you choose a more common type of granite hat is available in your country, it is still hard to transport due to its weight.
When the heavy slab is delivered to the granite workshop, it has to be processed and shaped in accordance with the scheduled project by experienced stonemasons using very advanced tools. Then, the worktop has to be delivered to the customer who ordered it, and it is still heavy.
